Just Catching up...the Journey Continues and Life is Good!

It's been just over three years since my last post. -Thought you'd want to know how things are going. Since then, life has gotten completely back to normal. Follow up exams have gone well and life is good. My hubby and I started a new small corporation (construction contracting) and I continue to work in the arts and entertainment in our area as an oil painter and songwriter. I feel great! Staying fit and watching diet, sleep, and hydration. Oh, and stress! This is the tricky one, I'm sure you'd all agree. I've made a few friends from this blog and am blessed to know that they have been helped. That's what it's all about.

Looking back on this health journey, I wish I could determine whether the decisions made were the right ones for me. I try to remember that "for me" is a very important term. We are individuals. Our lives, minds, and bodies are unique. The choice that's right for one may not be for another. Individualism is so important! In health, relationships, religion, everywhere! And it's something that is too often overlooked or dismissed.

I like that not having had radiotherapy made it easier for my surgeons in reconstruction. I read new articles about its long-term side effects and rest that surgery alone was the better choice for me.

I believe that I look good, even better than I did, though not perfect. Numbness due to the removal of nerve endings in the breast is something that I've gotten used to and am more careful about now. And my breast surgeon says that an upcoming annual exam will be my last with her - that after 5 years from initial dx, further screenings of any kind are no longer helpful or warranted. I like that.

So just to encourage you, who may be as I once was (hungry for information, in need of direction): Life gets better again. You can get back to work, to kids, to life. You'll always wonder, but there will be an assurance that you've done the best you could and can relax. God's got your back. Blessings!
